bootcamp2.pngIdeas2Market is pleased to introduce the Start it up in a day BOOTCAMP - an intensive one-day workshop that will provide you with everything you need to know to start your venture. The BOOTCAMP is run by Business Boffins and the Ideas2Market Team and it is sponsored by Octopus Ventures, Deutsche Bank, Business Link, Cmypitch.com and Linklaters.

Whether you are a serial entrepreneur, have an idea that you want to launch into a venture or are just interested in entrepreneurship, the BOOTCAMP is for you. We are searching for enthusiastic new recruits who believe that they have what it takes to be the next Richard Branson or Anita Roddick.

The Bootcamp takes place on November 12, 2008 from 9:15am-5:15pm at the Said Business School with a keynote address by Tim Smit of the Eden Project. Recruits get a Start-up pack and a BOOTCAMP shirt. There are only 40 places for the BOOTCAMP.

Join us for an evening with Lord Karan Bilimoria, an entrepreneur best known as the Founder and Chairman of Cobra Beer. He received the Bachelor of Commerce degree from Osmania University in 1981. He founded Cobra Beer in 1989, aiming to create a less gassy lager more suitable for drinking with curry and other foods. In 1999, the company diversified into wine, and as of 2006 has a turnover of £96 million at retail value. In 2005, he became Chancellor of Thames Valley University — the United Kingdom’s youngest university chancellor at the time and in 2006, he was chosen as a cross-bench life peer with the title Baron Bilimoria, of Chelsea in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea by the House of Lords Appointments Commission, becoming the first-ever Parsi in the House of Lords.

Positions are available for Creative Director, Student Enterprise Officer, Secretary, Membership Officer, Relationships Manager, Treasurer. These are detailed below along with general committee guidelines

Basic Guidelines for Committee Positions

Investment:

  • Six hours / week during Full Term, two hours / week during Vacation
  • Attend weekly Committee Meetings Sun 4pm during Full Term
  • Attend our events
  • Pioneer your role and help refine it for subsequent years

Creative Officer

Function: Set the creative strategy to approach our market

  • Work with the marketing officer to maintain and improve the brand and aesthetic of the Society
  • Create promotional materials which are funky, functional and, well, fun.
  • Maintain a digital database of all OEs artwork.
  • Put your mind to thinking up unheard of, exciting and award winning promotions.

You are: a stylish, clear communicator with an eye for design and a neat expression. You get a buzz from producing high quality marketing materials. This is a skilled role and relevant experience is necessary.

You get: your work showcased before audience of upcoming and successful entrepreneurs; chance to work with a funky, high-profile brand; work with a talented, dynamic team.

Treasurer

Function: Document and control the flow of money and prepare termly reviews and annual accounts. Also assist with the management and sourcing of sponsorship.

  • Be active in corresponding with corporations to propose sponsorship
  • Negotiate sponsorship deals with potential clients
  • Maintain all administration relating to our finances
  • Liaise with the bank
  • Keep receipts and invoices
  • Assess expense claims
  • Be one of the signatories for outgoing payments
  • Write financial reviews and assist the auditors

You are: very well organised, resourceful, pay attention to detail and have a flair for numbers. You are encouraged to have at least some prior experience in handling accounts.

You get: the chance to manage a large budget. This is a senior role that leaves enough time to get involved in cross functional contributions.

Special Relations Officer

Function: Monitor and manage relationships with all individuals and organisations for the benefit of OE

  • Strengthen relations with a series of key people, including the heads of Said Business School, Isis Innovation, Oxford Science, Enterprise Centre, Skoll Social Entrepreneurship Centre and the Proctors.
  • Be outgoing in making new relationships.
  • Meet our members and actively connect appropriate people
  • You’ll handle successful entrepreneurs, corporate services companies and a range of enterprise initiatives.
  • Take charge of hospitality when they visit. Wine and dine them!
  • Sensitively decline relationships with organisations we don’t want to work with.

You are: a confident, likable, diplomatic person that can quickly grasp a politic situation and build relations for the benefit of all. Outgoing and can identify useful targets and bring them in. It is a bonus if you come with some good contacts.

You get: to know all the top people in business; become a key person for members to know; develop good personal contacts; improve your skills in negotiation and corporate relationships.

Membership Officer

Functions: Attract both quantity and quality members, and ensure they are active and appropriately connected.

  • Get to know our members and actively connect suitable people - these include active entrepreneurs, alumni, MBAs and graduates.
  • Be outgoing in making new relationships.
  • Conduct campaigns to increase membership, primarily by coordinating Freshers’ Fair
  • Ensure our members are active on YouNoodle
  • Be outgoing in making new relationships.
  • Be the first person to meet members at events and administrate registration
  • Assess and authorize external applicants

You are: someone that enjoys putting people together and can get passionate about spreading our vision. You are a good judge of character, able to assess people quickly, motivate them, and solve problems.

You get: a prime view of our membership; meet and help rising stars early on; be an important person to know. You also get experience of handling a great team, the chance to test your judgment skills, and experience in recruitment.

Secretary

Function: Design and maintain the cogs of the machine that allow us to have any outputs at all.

  • Set the agenda and keep minutes from weekly Committee Meeting
  • Ensure the Proctors’ requirements are fulfilled
  • Take responsibility for keeping the Society’s documentation up to date
  • Handle disciplinary cases and complaints
  • Monitor the project activity within the Committee and ensure things get done.

You are: very well organised, a good motivator, responsible, attentive to detail and reliable.

You get: experience in business administration and the best insight into how the organisation really works. You will also know more about the projects and activity of the Committee than anyone. This is one of the top three most senior management positions.
