Welcome to Oxford Entrepreneurs, the most dynamic and exciting movement to hit Oxford in years! Oxford Entrepreneurs is for students who are doers. Whether that’s running a business, starting a charity or planning a massive party, Oxford Entrepreneurs want to make difference.
The aim of our events is to bring you together with the other movers-and-shakers in Oxford: we want to inspire you with talks from famous entrepreneurs, put you in touch with like-minded students, help get your own ideas off the ground with our Start A Company Scheme, and each year we give away big money for enterprise ideas in the Idea Idol competition.
Our events are open to everyone, whether you have started your own enterprise, have a new idea, or just want to find out what it is all about – everything we do is completely FREE and attracts students from all disciplines. Over the past few years we have grown to become the largest free society in Oxford with over 3000 members. So get involved and find yourself among some of the most innovative, driven, creative, talented and fun people. Join us in becoming the next generation of world-leading entrepreneurs.
This year we bring you the founders of The Carphone Warehouse, The Big Issue and the richest man in Scotland – Sir Tom Hunter. Previous speakers have included James Dyson, Alan Sugar and Stelios. We have been featured in the Times and The Economist, while the Department of Trade and Industry described us as “one of the top three organisations in the UK for supporting innovation and enterprise”.
From business ideas to technological spin-outs, events to social enterprise, Oxford is buzzing with start-ups. This year we hope to support and promote innovation and enterprise at the grass roots level - that’s you! One way we are doing this is through the introduction our community platform, Younoodle. This allows you to showcase your projects and meet other members, so join up now!
“They are an inspirational crowd - young and full of ideas and energy. If they and their like can sustain a decent level of enthusiasm, then we will still have a worthwhile enterprise economy in a few decades’ time.”
- Luke Johnson, Chairman, Channel 4, Sunday Telegraph, 6th March 2005
I look forward to meeting you all in the year to come,
Alasdair Bell
President 2007-08
